Partnering for Safety Success: Ethos Supports Ithaca Energy’s First Large-Scale Flotel Campaign

This year marked the beginning of a new and exciting collaboration between Ethos and Ithaca Energy, a leading independent oil and gas operator in the North Sea. Known for their rapid growth and recent Business Combination with Eni UK, completed in October 2024, Ithaca has quickly become the largest oil and gas operator in the UKCS by resources and the second largest by production. Their scale and ambition require a strong focus on health and safety, and that’s where Ethos comes in.

A Campaign That Calls for Support

Ithaca is currently running its first large-scale flotel campaign, a complex and high-pressure operation that brings significant challenges from a HSE perspective. With increased POB and a step-change in activity, the need for additional HSE supervision and support is critical.

Having previously worked with Ithaca staff during flotel campaigns run by other operators, our safety coaches were already familiar faces. Ithaca had seen first-hand the value of our onsite safety coaching and turned to Ethos for dedicated campaign support.

The Ethos Way in Action

Our involvement isn’t traditional training and coaching—it’s real-time, boots-on-the-ground HSE support. The aim is to embed the Ethos approach across the campaign: supporting effective onboarding, helping leaders and supervisors set up for success before kick-off, and coaching essential practices such as Risk Assessment, Toolbox Talks, and safety conversations.

The focus is on building psychological safety, strengthening communication, and ensuring a robust implementation of safe working essentials across teams. In addition to core coaching duties, our safety coaches have also stepped in to assist with Donut training and NORM monitoring, following specific requests from Ithaca.

Building Capability for the Future

In the lead-up to the campaign, we delivered a pilot TRA workshop, with more scheduled later this year. These sessions have already started to reinforce key safety principles and encourage more reflective, higher-quality safety conversations. Participants are walking away with a clearer understanding of their roles in maintaining a safe working environment and how to lead from the front when it comes to risk.

The Road Ahead

This is a collaborative journey. As the campaign progresses, we’ll continue to adapt our support to meet Ithaca’s evolving needs, always grounded in the Ethos philosophy of empowering people to perform safely and effectively.

We’re proud to be part of this milestone campaign with Ithaca and look forward to sharing more stories, insights, and impact from the field.
