Working with OQ: Leading the Way in Safety

A Partnership Built on Trust
Ethos has been proudly working with OQ since 2019, back when the company was known as Orpic. Over the years, as OQ grew and merged into a leading energy company, our partnership has grown with them. We’ve been supporting their efforts to strengthen safety leadership across all levels of their organisation.

About OQ
OQ is a government-owned energy company in Oman and plays a key role in the Oman Investment Authority. They’re involved in a wide range of energy activities, including oil and gas exploration, refining, petrochemical production, alternative energy, power generation, and infrastructure. OQ also brings foreign investment into Oman, helping to grow the economy and support national energy goals.

Why OQ Chose Ethos
OQ identified a need to develop their leaders—from team leads to executives—in how to lead more effectively when it comes to safety. They wanted practical training that would build real confidence and capability in this area. That’s where Ethos stepped in.

What We’ve Delivered

So far, we’ve completed two trips to Oman:

  • Trip One: A 2-day Safety Leadership workshop for senior leaders.
  • Trip Two: The same workshop delivered to team leaders, plus a new 2-day Safety Coaching workshop for selected team leads who will take on coaching responsibilities at OQ’s RPI site.

What’s Made the Difference
The coaching style and structured approach to safety conversations have been key elements of our training. These tools help leaders engage others in a respectful, clear, and effective way. During onsite coaching, we saw real-life examples of team leaders applying what they learned—stopping unsafe work and guiding others toward immediate corrective actions.

You could literally see the moment the message landed for some people. The shift in confidence and behaviour during those follow-ups proved the value of the coaching style and framework.

Real Impact on the Ground
The impact of the training didn’t stop in the classroom. During onsite coaching, we saw how delegates were putting their learning into action. Their ability to have more meaningful and effective safety conversations is already creating a stronger, more proactive safety culture.

Looking Ahead
This is only the beginning. Ethos will be working with OQ through to 2030. In 2026, we’ll carry out a full safety culture assessment to inform a five-year improvement plan. Alongside this, Safety Leadership and Coaching workshops will continue into 2026 and 2027, helping to embed long-term change.

A Shared Commitment to Safety
We’re proud to support OQ’s journey. Their commitment to improving safety leadership and culture is clear, and we’re excited to keep working together to build something that lasts—safer, stronger, and more engaged teams at every level of the organisation.
