Ethos is delivering HSE Leadership Tours training and coaching and Incident investigation training to leaders in Genel Energy. Genel Energy operate the Sarta oil field in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, with headquarters in the city of Erbil.

HSE Site Leadership Tours

The scope consists of a one-day classroom-based workshop followed up by a site visit the following day to put into practice the lessons learned from the workshop. Our team of facilitators, Coaches and Role players are delivering this programme to leaders at all levels within Genel, from site supervision to the senior executive team.

Some key topics covered are:

  • Leadership presence at site to establish and reinforce the safety culture.
  • Provide an opportunity for leaders to share their HSE expectations and vision.
  • To demonstrate ‘felt’ leadership with a focus on Genel Life Saving Rules.
  • To enable leaders to identify HSE issues through observing what is happening at the site.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of behaviours by using a Coaching Style of Leadership
  • Listening to what people are saying by asking open questions and wide-open requests.
  • Keep a balanced focus on both personal safety and process safety.

In the workshop we utilise roleplay to allow the delegates to conduct safety conversations on observed unsafe behaviours in a safe controlled environment. The roleplay is commonly given the best feedback in the whole workshop, due to the skills of the role-player and the focus on making authentic scenarios.

Incident Investigations

The Incident Investigation workshops aim to equip leaders with core knowledge and skills to be effective Team Leaders or valuable members of an incident investigation team.

Some key topics covered are:

  • Information gathering
  • Interviewing,
  • Analysis of information,
  • Creating sequence of events pre/post-incident,
  • Identifying critical factors,
  • Identifying causation (immediate & underlying) and developing actions.
  • Human factors.

The incident investigation workshops also benefit from authentic roleplay scenarios during the interview phase of the training.

We also tailored the training to Genels needs and created the course using the case study of a recent incident that happened at one of their sites. At Ethos we have of the shelf case studies that can be used or we can create a bespoke investigation workshop based on real incidents.
